What are First Friday Vigils?
Since the year 1673, the first Friday of every month is a special day of prayer and devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Beginning a several years ago in Thunder Bay, a prayer group was established to promote this devotion more among the Catholics of our City. Please note, that this is a diocesan initiative hosted out of Corpus Christi Parish.
What Happens during the Vigil?
These vigils are held for the upholding of life, marriage, family and priests and vocations. The evening begins with the exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, the Sacrament of Reconciliation, praise and worship music, Stations of the Cross, the rosary, litanies and other devotions and silence throughout the night. It concludes with the Angelus and Benediction.
When are the Vigils?
The vigils are held every First Friday of the month and begin at 9:00 pm and conclude at 6:00 am at Corpus Christi Parish. Please use the “wheelchair access” door to enter and leave the church.
How can I participate?
You do not need to stay the entire time. Any time spent with the Lord before the Blessed Sacrament is beneficial. Feel free to bring a rosary, a bible and any other devotional materials that help you to pray. Prayer booklets are also available.
