Who We Are
We are a group who seek to live the spirituality of the Taizé Community by coming together in prayer and witness to peace and unity in our corner of the world.
History of the Taizé Community
The Taizé Community is an ecumenical monastic community located in Taizé, France.
It all began in 1940, when Brother Roger left Switzerland to live in France to create a community he felt that God had called to him to do during a long illness with tuberculosis. During the Second World War, he felt drawn to shelter refugees fleeing the war. On Easter day in 1949, Brother Roger was joined by seven other brothers who committed themselves together for their whole life.
Today, the Taizé Community, is composed of over 100 brothers, Catholics and from various Protestant traditions, coming from approximately thirty countries. By its very existence, the Community is a “parable of community” that seeks to be “a sign of reconciliation between divided Christians and between separated peoples.”
Small groups of brothers have moved from Taizé to establish the Community throughout the world. They live in some of the most disadvantaged places, to be witnesses of peace and love by reaching out to those that the world has forgotten.
Over the years, young adults have been streaming to Taizé on pilgrimage in ever greater numbers inspiring a new generation to live in unity, love and peace by recognizing our common identity as God’s children.
Taizé Method of Prayer
Taizé prayer incorporates beautiful chants, readings, silence and contemplation wrapped in soft candlelight. Icons, a gateway into contemplation, have been used in this method of prayer.
When We Meet
We gather on the third Friday of the month at 7:00 pm at Corpus Christi Church for a time of prayer and fellowship. All are welcome!
